Travel Report September 2025

We look back with gratitude on our project trip to Sierra Leone. It was a week full of meetings, conversations and special moments in which we got to see how the work in this country continues and grows. We would like to take you along in a report of our trip.

The first days in Freetown

After a smooth journey we arrived safely in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. The next morning our first meeting was already scheduled with the drilling company working on the construction of new wells. It is wonderful to see concrete steps being taken to make clean drinking water available for villages in the region.

After that we visited Daniëlle's orphanage, run by Rejoice. We got to see many familiar faces again and were warmly received. The children proudly showed their rooms, which all looked neat and well cared for. At lunch we enjoyed a shared meal, and the children were given an explanation of the importance of brushing teeth and hygiene. For some children we were able to hand out a children's Bible, so that every child now has their own children's Bible.

On Sunday we attended a church service at the invitation of pastor Abu Bakarr and Rev. Moses Jawara. Erik spoke there on Psalm 23, about the Good Shepherd's care for His sheep.

Visits in Malal and Rochen

After our days in Freetown we travelled on to the Malal district. On behalf of the friendly Dutch foundation Seeds for Growth, we spoke with the board in Sierra Leone, which focuses on the establishment of rice fields.

Later that day we arrived in Rochen and Malal. The journey was challenging due to the rainy season and poor roads, but we arrived safely. At the little church we were immediately surrounded by children, and Regine told a Bible story, after which every child received a lollipop.

After that we visited the school under construction. What a joy to see how quickly the building is progressing. The furniture is also already being made. We also visited the new well, where hard work is being done.

Back to the roots in Limba

After breakfast we travelled on to Limba, the village where the roots of our foundation lie. Together with Daniel we visited the branch of the school, which is expected to be ready for use within 2 to 3 months. This means that in the future the children will no longer have to take the bus to Limba, but can attend school closer to their village.

We also visited the new wells that have been realized in Limba. A sign was attached to each well, with the wish that this message may speak to the hearts of the people. In Limba we also took a look at the first aid post, which is under the care of nurse Thomas.

Meetings in Mile91 and Mbaoma

Our journey then took us to Mile91, where we were warmly received by people taking part in trainings from the NET Foundation. After that we continued on to Mbaoma, where the second rice field of Seeds for Growth has been established. Under a large mango tree, the whole village gathered for a meeting. The needs shared there touched us deeply: there is no school, no church building and no clean drinking water.

Kabala and the consul

After a long journey we arrived in Kabala, where we were hospitably received by Rev. Moses Jawara. The next morning we visited a school set up by the Christian Reformed Church (CRC). Finally we met the Dutch honorary consul, Mrs. Binta Jalloh.

Looking back

After a long journey we arrived safely back home. We were given the health to make all the visits and hold the conversations. We hope and pray that the work taking place in Sierra Leone, thanks in part to your support, may be a blessing to many, to the honour of God's Name.
