In the centre of Freetown there is a church where reformed education is now being provided.
Meeting Abu Bakarr Tarawalie
In 2024 we came into contact with Abu Bakarr Tarawalie through the Net Foundations programme. From the very first moment, his great commitment to and interest in reformed education stood out. In the conversations that followed, a special bond slowly grew, both on a personal and a substantive level.
A different path
Abu Bakarr told us how he had the opportunity to accept a good job abroad. Yet he felt that the Lord was showing him a different path. The desire grew to return to Sierra Leone, with the goal of establishing a reformed church and a school there where children would receive education from God's Word.
Church and school as one whole
Through much dedication, perseverance and dependence on the Lord, this desire could become reality. Step by step a church and a school were built. The church and the school together form one whole and work from the same Biblical and reformed foundation. Where the school focuses on daily education for the children, the church offers spiritual training and gatherings for the wider community.
Cooperation with Njalowei
In recent years Njalowei has been able to contribute several times to extensions of the buildings and to the running of the work. Gradually the question arose whether this initiative could become part of the Njalowei programme. We are now working together in both the church and education work, and conversations are taking place about further intensifying this cooperation.
Towards a Njalowei church
With gratitude we may report that the church is developing into a Njalowei church, in which reformed thinking is central. Evangelist Simon Nwoshibe leads the gatherings and also supports the Biblical-reformed education given at the school.
Outlook and prayer
It is special to see how doors are being opened to work together. We look forward with anticipation to the further development of this work and pray that the Lord will bless it, so that it may be to the honour of His Name and bear lasting fruit in the lives of many.
