A blue shed by the first aid post

Just before we drive out of the village of Limba, our eye falls on a large piece of land at the edge of the community. Between the first aid post and the school stands a striking blue shed with a hand pump in front of it. It looks like a familiar sight, a simple facility such as we often see.

Just water from the tap

But whoever looks closer discovers something special. By the pump and the first aid post we see several taps on the wall. We carefully turn one open... and immediately clean, clear and fresh drinking water flows out. No buckets, no long queues, no heavy pumping on a lever. Just water available as soon as you turn the tap.

Joy among the children

As we walk onto the schoolyard, the children come towards us enthusiastically. With shining eyes they show us how it works. "Look!" they call out, proudly turning the tap and filling their hands with cool water. Their joy is contagious.

A visible blessing

What a difference from before. No more long journeys to the lakes. No more waiting in the middle of the village at a hand pump. No more heavy exertion under the scorching sun.

Now fresh and even still cool drinking water is simply available, close to the school and the health post. That means health for the patients of the first aid post. That means hygiene and safety. That means concentration and energy for the children at school.

A simple turn of the tap... and the water flows. What is self-evident for many is here a visible blessing.
