A long journey for water

In a small village, deeply hidden in the forest of Sierra Leone, a great wish has become reality. For years the residents had no access to clean water in their own surroundings. Every day women and children had to travel long distances, often with heavy buckets on their heads, to fetch water for their family. A journey that cost much time and energy and that had to be made again every single day.

Clean water close by

Thanks to the realisation of this well, that has now changed. Clean and safe water is now within reach for the residents of the village. The well means not only an improvement in health and hygiene, but also gives more time and opportunities for education, work and family life. For many, this facility is therefore a great blessing.

The name Rehoboth

The well bears the name Rehoboth. This name is taken from Genesis 26:22, where Isaac says: "For now the LORD hath made room for us." Rehoboth literally means: room, place or enlargement. It reminds us that the LORD provides a way out when paths seem closed, and that He provides for what people need.

A source of life

The name Rehoboth therefore fits this well particularly well. Where once there was scarcity and hardship, a source of life has now come. Every time water is fetched, this well may be a tangible reminder of God's care and providence.

Prayer for blessing

We hope and pray that this well may be a blessing to the residents of the village for many years to come, and that in the room and provision they have received, they may see something of the goodness of the LORD.
