Orphanage Daniëlle; a safe place for 20 children

Close to the large capital Freetown, in the middle of beautiful nature, lies the village of Makolo. The nature is wonderfully beautiful, the sky is bright blue and the sun shines abundantly as we drive onto the courtyard. Several children look at us, curious what we have come to do…

The poverty in Sierra Leone is heartbreaking.

Due to bitter circumstances, many children lose their parents. Many die at a young age, others are simply unable to care for their children. In desperation, children are sometimes left on the street – in the hope that someone from the community will take care of them.

Miss Rejoice, known for her faithful commitment to children's evangelism work, saw this need up close. More and more children she met turned out to be orphaned or had been rejected by their parents.

From her heart, she took the initiative to do something.

She asked our foundation for help in building an orphanage – a safe place where these children would receive not only shelter, but also love, care and spiritual guidance.

Thanks to committed donors, this desire became reality. In June 2025, Orphanage Daniëlle opened its doors. Twenty children have now found a home here. Many of you met these children digitally during the live connection at the Njalowei Family Day.

Taking in more children is unfortunately not possible – twenty is the maximum number we can responsibly care for. Every place is precious. And although the need is still much greater, we believe that every individual act of help counts.

What the children receive

In Orphanage Daniëlle, twenty vulnerable children have found a safe place. Here they receive not only shelter, but also loving care and attention. Each child now has their own bed – a place where they feel secure and can find rest. Every day a nutritious meal with rice is served, and enough clothing has been made available so that every child can go to school decently dressed.

What a difference from the situation these children come from. For many of them, their past meant a life on the street, without structure, care or hope. In Orphanage Daniëlle they receive a future again – with education, routine and loving guidance.

The most valuable thing they receive is Biblical teaching.

Every day the children get to listen to stories from the Bible. They learn who God is, that the Lord Jesus died for sinners. And what it means to live according to His Word. Miss Rejoice, who leads the orphanage from her heart, raises the children with Biblical norms and values.

She teaches them love, honesty, forgiveness and trust in God. What a special thing that these children may hear from a young age about the only way to salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Become a sponsor for just €35 per month

For a limited number of children we are still looking for committed sponsors. With your monthly contribution of €35 you help a child with their daily basic needs and give them prospects for the future. Because it concerns a small group of children, personal contact with the child is possible. A Dutch volunteer coordinates this contact and supports you in this.

• Personal background information about the child
• The opportunity to have contact at least twice a year
